It’s not a job role you hear an awful lot about, but an architectural technician is a very important (and well paid) role. It involves a great deal of design and project management, and there is usually a lot of hands on work involving drawing production.
Most architectural consultancy agencies are run by a team of architectural technicians, and the good news is experience is more important than degrees in this profession! Obviously you need to have the understanding in place, and experience with architectural software like AutoCAD, but opportunities are out there for newbies, and pay tends to be anywhere between £30,000 and £40,000 per annum.
If you’re interested in pursuing a career in construction as an architect, this could be the ideal role for you, but be warned, most companies are looking for at least 5 years experience.
