If the concentration is too high then it may etch the surface, and also cause discolouration.

Luckily if the paint on your brick is fresh, then you can use a commercial paint remover which is available at all good home improvement stores. Apply the mix to the stain and allow to dry. Then use a wire brush to scrub the mark off.
